Feldenkrais

Terri is a Feldenkrais practitioner and works with many individuals to improve their posture and movement, as well as bring them to greater awareness of themselves physically.
Awareness Through Movement® (ATM) lessons incorporate active movements and directed sensory attention or imagery. A typical lesson lasts about forty-five minutes and combines a few dozen movements, which are thematically organized around a functional action. Examples of such actions could include developmental movements such as rolling, crawling, and standing up; functions such as posture and breathing; systematic explorations of the kinetic possibilities of the joint and muscle groups; and experiments in movement-based imagery and visualization that pertain to perception, cognition, and other aspects of motor function. Throughout the lessons, students learn to integrate their new skills into their self-image, and other parts of their lives.
Functional Integration® (FI) has very similar goals, with the difference that Terri uses her hands to guide and/or make the movements, often while the students lie or sit passively. Imagery and visualization are again encouraged and guided during the course of the session.
Terri gives both ATM and FI lessons at her home studio. For appointments, call 06-4139 3308.
